    Martin Lewis,  Commentator Emeritus

For three years (1999-2002), Beatles historian Martin Lewis wrote his entertaining column "Beatle-ly Incorrect" for Daytrippin' . Martin provided provocative and insightful commentary distilled from his lifelong passion for the Beatles and his insider's perspective as a producer and consultant on multiple Beatles-related projects. His extensive work commitments led to him giving up the column in 2002. But he intends to write occasional columns in the future. You can read through Martin's columns in various back issues of Daytrippin'.

Martin Lewis is considered one of the world's leading Beatles scholars. He has a 37-year history of working on Beatles-related projects - ranging from 1967 (when as a 14-year-old schoolboy he was hired to compile the discography for the official biography of The Beatles) to 2004 (when he was engaged as worldwide marketing consultant for Paul McCartney's new DVD "The Music And Animation Collection").

He started his professional career in 1971 as a protege of legendary Beatles publicist Derek Taylor. In the past 10 years alone, his Beatles-related work includes being the U.S. consultant on the Beatles' "Anthology" and "Live At The BBC" projects; producing the DVD edition of "A Hard Day's Night" and being associate producer of "The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show" DVD. In 1997 he co-produced Liverpool's official 40th anniversary celebrations of the fabled day that John and Paul met for the first time. In 2004 he instigated and coordinated "The Fab 40!" - the multiple 40th anniversary celebrations of the Beatles' first US visit. He spearheads the campaign to have Beatles manager Brian Epstein inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and he created and hosts the official Brian Epstein website for the Epstein family. www.BrianEpstein.com

Letters submitted to Daytrippin':

I was very impressed with Issue #10 (Spring 2000) of Daytrippin'. In reading the issue, the magazine reminds me a lot of Barb Fenick's The Write Thing, one of the first great Beatles fanzines back in the '70's. There really is a need for a real fan-oriented Beatles publication. We [Beatlefan] cover the news and history, Beatlology covers collecting, Good Day Sunshine . . . well, they cover year-old news (when it's published). So there really is a need for a Beatles publication in the spirit of The Write Thing, the late Joe Pope's Strawberry Fields Forever, and GDS, in the days when Charles Rosenay published it, and Daytrippin' is well on the way to filling that need.

Al Sussman, Executive Editor
Beatlefan magazine

Congratulations on a good-looking and well-written magazine! I LOVED the story of the high school class that wasn't allowed tose "Imagine" in 1972 as their class song--it's a gem (Issue No. 1). And the Astrid Kirchherr story was excellent. My check for a subscription is in the mail.

I enjoyed my interview with Marshall Terrill (Issue #7). Without a doubt it was the most intellectual discussion I have done to date. I really enjoy Daytrippin' and I'm sure it will carry on as THE great new Beatles' fanzine for the new millennium.

Testimonials from Daytrippin' readers

The following are letters that were submitted to Daytrippin' from its readers:

Picked up your Spring 1999 issue (#6) awhile back at a Borders here locally and enjoyed it greatly. I love the look and the style of the magazine along with some of the unique features you include. Since I subscribe and write for a number of other Beatle publications, it's nice to see a fresh new face out in the crowd that doesn't look repetitive or the same as some of the other ones. Keep up the great work!

Happily we received Issue 5 just last week. We enjoyed reading it so much thtat we decided that we now need to have all the previous issues that we have missed. Daytrippin' is a wonderful magazine, and I can tell that it is put together with love. We appreciate all of the time and energy that is put into this publication. We especially like reading Martin Lewis' column, "Beatle-ly Incorrect." Keep those great issues coming!

Daytrippin' is absolutely fantastic!! Keep up the excellent work. I will definitely remain a subscriber as long as Daytrippin' is being published. Thanks again!!

I'd just like to say how happy I was to get the latest issue of Daytrippin'. It's so great to have something us younger fans can relate to. I love how the articles don't dwell on the wealth of Beatles merchandise and how much each piece is worth. It's refreshing to read about the music and the people behind the music. You've proven to me that I'm not the onlyh one who likes the Beatles for their music and not their autographs. KEEP BAGISM ALIVE!!

Keep up the good work! Daytrippin' gets better with every new issue. My 16-year-old son is writing a report on "the lads" for school. I just think that is so cool, and Daytrippin' is helping him.

Daytrippin' is a first rate periodical. Very pleased! Thanks to the classified ad I placed in your last issue, I got the Harrison-Lennon acoustic guitar I'd been looking for. It is my hope to meet your staff at a future Beatles convention!

The Special 2000 Collectors issue of Daytrippin' (#9) was really great! I had voted the "Let it Be" cover as my favorite album cover in the readers poll and there it was on the new 2000 issue!

As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed your most recent issue. The magazine is very professionally presented and packed with interesting and useful information that's hard to find elsewhere.

I just wanted to say that I loved your tribute to Linda McCartney in Issue #3 (Summer 1998). I thought it was very moving and complimentary to her. It showed that she was not only Paul McCartney's wife, but an extraordinary person in her own right.

I found information regarding your fanzine on the internet and was impressed, as well as pleased, with the quality of the article "Listen to These Pictures in Issue #5. I look forward to receiving Daytrippin' in the near future.

I am 15 years old and am a HUGE Beatles fan. I am really glad that my parents subscribed to this magazine for me (it was a present). I loved your article on the "Paul is Dead" story (Issue #7). In fact, I got so interested in it that I went out and bought the book you discussed, The Walrus Was Paul. It was so good!! Thanks a lot for all the information you've given to all us Beatle fans!!
